Q - BK5 If you have STAT=2 errors, then the database is damaged. Use your last backup. If you do not have any good copy of the database, then you can use BTRHELP to recover some of the data.
--------------------
Q - BK6 I'm suddenly getting an error when I open BK6 in my main database "BKSOURPT.dt6 Read Last Stat=2"
Then the message says to make a backup of my backup, which I've done.
The database opens, but what should I do about this error?A That one file is damaged.
You will need to restore from a good copy (a backup made before the error)
If you have a good recent backup, you can restore that.
If your only good backup is older, it is possible to Restore only that one file and not the entire database.
By doing that, you will not lose any new people you have added, but you will only lose any new Sources you have added since the backup was made.
If you want to do that, then pick File, Restore database, and when it shows the 9 files, use the mouse to UNcheck all the files except leave a check for file BKSOURPT.DT6
Then when only that one is checked, pick Restore Now.--------------------
Q - BK6We had a power outage yesterday as I was working in BK. Now I get the message "BK6person.dt6 Getlaststat =2" and then "If your database is damaged, you need to repair itbefore you can view or add to it."
A If you have a backup from yesterday, then use that.
NORSK
So if you know you had 2000 people in the database and the highest number was about 2050 then after you press F9 and it asks for the highest BK number, then type 2250 or some number higher than the highest number.
Then the program will try to recover any valid numbers from 1 to that number. It is OK to guess too high, that does not hurt anything. It is bad to guess to low because if you guess 1900 then it will only recover numbers 1 - 1900 and you will be missing some people.5.
OK for å fortsette)
Hvis dette ikke hjelper, send en melding som beskriver situasjonen og hva du har gjordt til John Steed and tell him what you tried and what happened and also how many names are in the database, and how many are in your older good backup. Sometimes there are other procedures that might recover most of the data.
Q - BK6We had a power outage yesterday as I was working in BK. Now I get the message "BK6person.dt6 Getlaststat =2" and then "If your database is damaged, you need to repair itbefore you can view or add to it."
A If you have a backup from yesterday, then use that.
If you do not have a good backup, you can try the procedure below
Sometimes this procedure will get back 99 percent of your data.
Sometimes it gets back 90 percent.
Sometimes it does not work at all.If you start BK6 and get a ReadLast Stat = 2 message, then your data file is damaged.
If you have any Backup copies of your data, keep them safe.
You should make a new backup of the damaged database to a new blank disk or CD if possible.
Then if you DO have a recent Backup from before the problem, you can Restore that backup and continue from that point on. If you do NOT have a recent backup, you can normally fix the database by following these directions:
1. At the main BK screen pick Help, About BK If you have a version less than 6.1.38 then download BKUPDATE.EXE and run that to install the current version. . (If you have an older version, you can still this procedure, except you will not have the F3 option in step 3 and in that case everyone will be assigned a new BK number)
2. Then in BK pick File, Split database, and create a new folder name.
3. Then when you get to the screen where you can select people, press the F3 key on the keyboard, and it will say "option to keep same BK code numbers"
4. Then press the F9 key and it will ask for the highest BK code number. Type a number LARGER than the highest number. Guess about 200 or more higher if you are not sure.
5. Then pick Range of numbers and select everyone from 1 to the end.
6. Then pick Copy (if you get a Stat error, just click OK to continue)
7. Then pick File, Open database and open the new folder you created.
8. Then pick File, Quality check and write down any errors, or let it fix them.
9. Then add back any missing people (that the Quality check said were missing.)
10. Then if you want to use the old folder name, you could make a new File, Backup, then open the original data folder, then do a File, Restore.
If this procedure does not work, notify John Steed and tell him what you tried and what happened and also how many names are in the database, and how many are in your older good backup. Sometimes there are other procedures that might recover most of the data.
